Battle Against Bowser

This is another reprinter!Yet again, another Valiant reprint, this time of some Super Mario comics.
In "Magic Carpet Madness" (SMB #2), Peach calls a carpet cleaner to clean the mud the King left on the floor, but the carpet parts turn into magic carpets!
Mario, Peach and Toad are deserted on an island in "Beauty and the Beach" (SMB #4), where Bowser has convinced the islanders to super-heat the volcano.
Mario and Luigi go after Peach's crown, which Lakitu has stolen, in "Cloud Burst" (SMB #5). As it turns out, Lakitu also has Bowser's crown.
Finally, in "Duh Stoopid Bomb" (SMB #5), Toad's evidence from Bowser explodes, and he, Mario, Luigi, the King, Wooster, and Peach turn as stupid as Odie from the Garfield strip. Bowser, a Snifit, and some Shyguys also get stupid as Odie.

A Sleepy StoryThis book was a childhood favorite of mine and my younger brother. We would have it read to us over and over every night. Many times, I remember falling asleep in the middle. It has a flowing rhythym and tone. Now, my children enjoy the same story every night as they fall asleep and I tell them a story.

IT'S SO GOOD THIS IS OUR 4TH COPYGreat way to help a preschooler tighten his eye-hand coordination. The activities start with bigger motor skills and as they get to the end of the book the skills become more difficult. My son loved the activities and asked to do them. Not boring at all.

Best Remaining Seats: The Story of the Golden Age of the Movie Palace
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (December, 1988)
Average review score:

THE original PRIME work on Movie Palace Architecture/HistoryTheatres have taken many forms through the ages, but the American innovation of the "Movie Palace" theatre to originally showcase silent films, is perhaps the most delightful meeting of the arts under one roof. Mr. Hall spent years searching the nation for photos and history of these architectural wonders and his respect for and love of this architype is readily evident! His jocular style can seem irreverant, but he strives thereby to keep his delight from turning to awe. It is a shame his life ended Dec. 16, 1970 for the New York Times and the world lost a master wordsmith and researcher/writer. This lavishly illustrated volume is the appropriate 'epitaph' for this art form and its success is revealed in the three subsequent printings in soft cover (minus the color plates in this first edition) and in the fact that it indirectly led to the forming of two societies of afficianados: THE THEATRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA,(publishers of MARQUEE magazine) and THE AMERICAN THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY,(publishers of THEATRE ORGAN magazine) both in Elmhurst, Ill. Mr. Hall would have been proud of the preservation movement for theatres which arose partially as a result of his engaging 266-page book. Its potential social impact was forseen by "AMERICAN HERITAGE" magazine in October 1961 when they excerpted it complete with the color plates as "The Best REE-MAINING Seats". Other books have followed, but they owe a tip of the hat to him who took the lead so well. If this is the story of NYC's ROXY, the "Cathedral of the Motion Picture" and of entrepreneur Roxy Rothafel, he is the foreshadow of Ben M. Hall and a glimmering showcase of the dazzling 'architecture of fantasy' to come. Tour the nation in a new way and Enjoy!

The Best Seat in the House: The Golden Years in Radio and Television
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (January, 1994)
Average review score:

MAKES ME WISH FOR 'THE GOOD OLD DAYS'Pat Weaver is not as famous as he should be. He's the man who created the 'magazine concept' type of television advertising that we know today. Had he not done this television would have taken a completely different path. Weaver gives us the gossip about David Sarnoff and many others who were resposible for the birth of broadcast media in America. The book is too simply written at times, almost childlike, but really, that's okay because it's a nice 'mind-candy' way to get a great lesson in media history.

Betty Crocker's Cookie Book
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (August, 1987)

Absolute nostalgia! This is an absolute classic. When I was little, my mom and I would go through the cookbook, making the recipes in order. I still use it every year for Christmas cookie gifts. My mom's copy is at least 25 years old now, with pages missing, torn, and splotched from years of use. If anyone has one they want to sell, let me know!
